Since 2019, Tenuta di Castellaro wines proudly bear the Vegan Attitude logo on all their labels. This certification, granted by Suolo e Salute, confirms that their production practices on the island of Lipari are entirely vegan.
But what does this mean, and why is it important?
Unlike conventional wines, vegan wines do not use any animal-derived ingredients during production. Traditional winemaking often employs animal-based fining agents like casein, albumin, and gelatin to clarify the wine.
However, Tenuta di Castellaro's wines are clarified through a natural process known as static decantation. In this method, solid particles that are usually filtered out are gradually removed by transferring the wine from one container to another until the wine becomes naturally clear in the bottle.
This approach makes their wines not only more ethical and sustainable but also more environmentally friendly and respectful of animal life.
To distinguish a vegan wine, look for a logo on the label granted by an official certification body. Choosing vegan wine is a gesture of respect for animal life and the planet, promoting more ethical and sustainable consumption.
In the world of high-quality wines, many restaurant wine lists, especially at top-tier establishments, now feature a "V" symbol for vegan certification or even dedicate entire sections to organic and vegan-certified wines. A recent example, as reported by their New York importers, is City Roots Hospitality Restaurants, which have five locations in Manhattan, all with vegan concepts, and all featuring Tenuta di Castellaro wines either on the menu or by the glass.
This is yet another reason to choose our wines!
