CAPERS AND CUCUNCI
Flowers, buds, and fruitsThe name of the caper comes from the Arabic “cabir”. It is a plant that has existed for centuries in the wild in the Aeolian Islands. During the summer, it produces a wonderful bloom with distinctive white flowers tinged with pink and purple, earning it the name “the orchid of the Aeolian Islands” due to its beauty.

Caper harvesting must be done before flowering. Every 10-15 days, the plant produces new buds that are harvested exclusively by hand.
Capers (buds) are the undisputed protagonists of the main representative dishes of the Aeolian Islands: pane cunzato, salad, and Aeolian pasta, while candied capers are used for desserts.
The capers that bloom into flowers produce fruits called cucunci.
With their unique flavor, they accompany appetizers, snacks, and salads, and they are also enjoyed in fish-based sauces.

Our pâté is a thick and creamy sauce made after a careful selection of our capers. It is often used as a condiment for crostini or as an ingredient for salads and pasta dishes.
