Sustainability in the Vineyard and the Cellar

Respecting history, culture, people, and traditions, Tenuta di Castellaro constantly seeks innovative systems and modern technologies to enhance professional efficiency and wine quality.

All our wines are certified Organic and Vegan Attitude, a recognition achieved through a thorough technical and agronomic evaluation of the entire production chain.

The Tenuta di Castellaro project is not only dedicated to crafting wines with a unique character while fully respecting the environment; it also focuses on preserving and enhancing the territory from a landscape and naturalistic perspective.

Furthermore, thanks to the ISO 14001 certification, we consistently adhere to current regulations regarding emissions, meeting all requirements for environmental management systems by reducing energy consumption and preventing pollution.

istory Teaches Us

The zero-impact cellar is entirely underground, designed in harmony with local style and history. It stands as a work of great artistic and architectural value, embodying the perfect integration between man and nature.

The solar chimneys, originally invented by the Persians and later optimized by the Romans, are designed to naturally capture sunlight and diffuse it into the barrel room. This innovation nearly eliminates the need for electric lighting.

The wind tower (badghir in Persian), used in the Middle East since the 10th century BCE to harness wind energy, consists of a chimney and a thermal labyrinth. This system creates natural air conditioning, maintaining the ideal temperature and humidity for the perfect aging of our wines.

The Island’s Most Precious Resource: Water

Renewable energy, energy efficiency, and water purification are just some of the significant challenges we must address in the global fight against climate change.

Within the small “ecological” world of Tenuta di Castellaro, we have designed a constructed wetland system for the natural purification of wastewater. Carefully selected plants play a fundamental role in creating an ideal habitat for the growth of bacterial flora, the key player in biological purification.

The Sun of Lipari

The sun, an inexhaustible and renewable source of energy, is a constant presence on the island.

For this reason, every roof of the cellar is equipped with photovoltaic panels that harness solar energy to produce electricity. This energy powers various activities, protecting the environment by reducing pollutant emissions into the atmosphere.
